Introduction:

It reacts with thionyl chloride to release chlorine and sulfur dioxide to generate α,β-dichloro-β-phenylpropanal. It can be azeotroped with lithium aluminum hydride or reacted with aluminum isopropoxide in ethanol to obtain phenylpropanol.
